The Concrete Cowboy

The Concrete Cowboy is about a young man who gets out of the military and buy a big rig tractor trailer unit and goes out over the road to earn his living without first thoroughly investigating the trucking industry. Truck stop parking lots are like small cities that form overnight and break up the next morning, leaving a driver more or less on his own and having to look out for himself.

Stephan R Hutchinson has thirty years over the road trucking experience and most of his writtings reflect incidents in his life, although some creative writting is added. Born in Watseka, Illinois he moved to Texas after completing his military service where he had a one year tour in Viet Nam and served eighteen months as a drill sergeant. Upon leaving the military he went to work for Crowell Collier McMillan publishing in the Regional office in Chicago. He was the youngest person ever be promoted to Branch Manager and sent to Kansas City and in nine months again promoted to the company's largest branch office back in Chicago. Feeling the call of the wlld, so to speak, he resigned his position and started driving a big rig truck. The rest of the story is contained in his novel The Concrete Cowboy.
